Running RealPlayer (Superbuffer) for a long duration results in an unusab

I have had this issue repro on my Ubuntu desktop (Gutsy
Gibbon/7.10:  2.6.22-14-generic #1 SMP) with
the following version of xorg (7.2-5)

-  xorg                                   1:7.2-5ubuntu13   
                  X.Org X Window System
-  xorg-driver-fglrx               
7.1.0-8.37.6+2.6.22.4-14.10     Video driver for ATI
graphics
accelerators
-  xserver-xorg                       1:7.2-5ubuntu13       
              the X.Org X server

I left RealPlayer running on the desktop for over a day and
came back to notice a sluggish desktop
with the X server taking over 60% of memory and over 80% of
the CPU cycles. Killing the realplayer
process restored responsiveness.
