Bryan,

I just took a quick look at the Tutorial you’re using̷0;quite nice BTW!

It seems to be based upon the VS2003 release of VB.NET and I’m guessing you’re using VBE2005.

No big deal…;you’ll find some differences but you’ll find the work-arounds!

under menus and toolbars in the toolbox, there is:

pointer

context menu strip

menu strip

and farther down the list is:

sql connection

sql data adapter

main menu

i don't know what the author or title is but it came from chapter five of:

Bryan,

I don’t know which tutorial you are using but I suspect that ‘main menu control217; is the generic term that the author has chosen to use for the menu control on the form. The ‘;properR17; name given to the control that creates this menu structure is the MenuStrip.

If you look in the Visual Studio Toolbox under “Menus & Toolbars” you will see the various tool classes that you can use in your programs. The only option in the group that will create a traditional menu structure is the MenuStrip tool.

Don̵7;t get too bogged down by the names̷0;go ahead and explore and you’re likely to discover way more than the author ever intended.

BTW, what control had you added to the form if not the MenuStrip?

Tim,

I don't know the differences with the controls yet.

the tutorial i am reading said to use the main menu control.

should i use the menu strip instead?

Bryan,

I assume that you are using the MenuStrip tool in VB.NET.

If you select the item in the menu, then by right clicking you will get a context menu and you can then Insert > MenuItem.

To rearrange the menu items, just grab the item and drag it with your mouse to where you want it.

hi steve,

sorry i thought i said vb.net but was only thinking and didn't say it.

i have jumped off the cliff into vb.net and things are different now.

there isn't a button for insert, delete, ect. anymore plus i have to figure out some of my own solutions when the tutorial says click on type here.

Hi Bryan,

If you are working in the VB-6 IDE, and
have brought up the TOOLS | Menu Dialog
and you are looking at the 42 menu items
which you created earlier in the day, but
now realize that you need a new item
between items 17 and 18, just click on
item 18, then go up to the middle center
and click upon the "Insert" button.

To put in three or four items between the
old 17th and 18th items you would have to
continue this Insert approach for the
3 or 4 times, or as needed.

hi all,

someone please tell me how to insert a menu heading or sub menu item without

erasing the menu back to that point.
