Hey Fred,
>> "..... are designed with."
Modeling Languages, UML, and pseudo code.
>> "....ok..., when they actually write the
code..."
Good question to ask of the Deitel Brothers,
perhaps on their Operating Systems forum.
For all I know John may be spot-on with the C++,
and far be it for me to bet against John < g >
Current development, I thought, makes use of
C-Sharp ( C-# ) and they probably still draw from
libraries that were written in Assembler and
in the 'C' language.
C++ is also a possibility, because I thought that
the older OSes were written in C++, but have Microsoft
rewritten all of the older 'C' and C++ into C-Sharp ?
Don't know, but there may not be any advantage
to doing that because it moves the code farther
away from the Machine Language level.
The closer the code is to the machine language level
the more efficient it will be, so Microsoft most
likely has written interfaces that allow the
C-Sharp to draw from the wealth of deep code.
That is also why the Net Framework is so large, huge, bulky.
There is a lot of work to be done behind the scenes
in a modern operating system.
The Large Framework may also be why the Dell Computers
that were pre-produced (this Fall) to run Vista
all came with 1024 MB of RAM.
It use to be a common assignment to ask a student
to rewrite the VB Replace() Function in 'C' or C++,
( to improve upon the existing function ) but the only
students who got an A+ for their work were the ones
who did their research, and submitted a short note that
explained that since the Replace function was written
in Straight Inline Assembler the effort was futile.
Ok, I'm rambling on again, but that is a very good
question Fred, and I'll have to look around
so as to satisfy my curiosity.
My wife may have to buy me the newest Deitel
OS book for Christmas, just so I can know for sure.
Boy, will she be thrilled < g >
Thanks,
Steve
