A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line
Internet-Drafts directories.
This draft is a work item of the Host Identity Protocol
Working Group of the IETF.

Title : Host Identity Protocol (HIP) Domain Name System
(DNS) Extensions
	Author(s)	: P. Nikander, J. Laganier
	Filename	: draft-ietf-hip-dns-06.txt
	Pages : 21
	Date : 2006-2-27

This document specifies a new resource record (RR) for the
Domain
Name System (DNS), and how to use it with the Host
Identity Protocol
(HIP.) This RR allows a HIP node to store in the DNS its
Host
Identity (HI, the public component of the node
public-private key
pair), Host Identity Tag (HIT, a truncated hash of its
public key),
and the Domain Names of its rendezvous servers (RVS.)

A URL for this Internet-Draft is:
http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-hip-
dns-06.txt

To remove yourself from the I-D Announcement list, send a
message to
i-d-announce-requestietf.org with the word unsubscribe in the
body of the message.
You can also visit h
ttps://www1.ietf.org/mailman/listinfo/I-D-announce
to change your subscription settings.

Internet-Drafts are also available by anonymous FTP. Login
with the username
"anonymous" and a password of your e-mail
address. After logging in,
type "cd internet-drafts" and then
	"get draft-ietf-hip-dns-06.txt".

A list of Internet-Drafts directories can be found in
http://www.ietf.org/s
hadow.html
or ftp://ftp.ietf.org/ietf/1shadow-sites.txt

Internet-Drafts can also be obtained by e-mail.

Send a message to:
	mailservietf.org.
In the body type:
	"FILE
/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-hip-dns-06.txt".

NOTE:	The mail server at ietf.org can return the document in
MIME-encoded form by using the "mpack" utility.
 To use this
feature, insert the command "ENCODING mime"
before the "FILE"
command. To decode the response(s), you will need
"munpack" or
	a MIME-compliant mail reader. Different MIME-compliant
mail readers
exhibit different behavior, especially when dealing with
"multipart" MIME messages (i.e. documents which
have been split
up into multiple messages), so check your local
documentation on
	how to manipulate these messages.

Below is the data which will enable a MIME compliant mail
reader
implementation to automatically retrieve the ASCII version
of the
Internet-Draft.

Hi,

In the next revision it would be good to update DNSSEC refs
to
RFC4033-RFC4035.

How about simultaneous query of A and HIP RR? It might be
useful to save
some RTTs, but it doesn't seem explicitly described.

What about storing multiple HIs per a host? Is it done using
several HIP
 RRs?

Some typos in the draft
using HIT in APIS
of the HPIHI record

Will do.

The way queries are issued is implementation dependent. The
description of how queries are issued is only illustrative
(note the
absence of requirement keywords and the use of the
'typically'
adverb.)

Do you think we need additional text?

Yes; this is not specific to HIP but generic to DNS usage:
when
multiple information of the same type have to be stored,
multiple RRs
are used. Examples includes A, AAAA, MX, etc.

Do you think we need additional text?

Best,
