Good news folks!

From Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ICalendar#Microsoft_Outlook
)
"""
Outlook 2007 is now fully compatible with iCalendar. Users
can add
calendars under Account Options and set how often they
should be
updated. Individual calendars are shown as a list of
checkboxes so you
can view or hide a calendar without unsubscribing and they
can be
viewed as separate tabs or overlaid into a single calendar.
"""

Also from the same article there's a pointer to Remote
Calendars which
is a plugin that enables Outlook to subscribe to iCals (this
is for
Outlook 2003 > 2007)

(Please correct me if I'm wrong)

Well, thing with those icals is, you can only view them, you
cannot create calendar items with ical. For this issue you
need caldav or a full MAPI provider.

To throw something in the discussion, KONSEC, a german
organization with paid developers started the development of
their (proprietary) MAPI storage provider in March 2003 and
released the first version in June 2005. So you can expect a
long time of development, debugging and researching until
there will be something usable, and this couldn't be a task
for version 1.0 (from my personal point of view).

As Alex already stated, the way to go is to support the
openconnector.org project which currently seems to be a
one-man-show. The developer posted on the mailing list, that
the base-functionality is working but manpower is needed for
bug-squashing and optimizations.

I fully agree that a working (and free) exchange-like
email-system with full outlook compatibility would be the
one and only killer application, but it couldn't be an aim
of this project so far.

There are Email-Clients like Thunderbird which are running
on windows and supporting caldav now and it is already
announced that there will be a Kontact version for windows.
So the companies willing to use hula can use one of those
clients until there is a usable (and stable) outlook
connector.

Cheers,
Manuel
