So, I did say that it's not clear what Novell facilities
we'll continue
to be offered, and that's still true.

But, it would be good to be prepared, so rather than have a
back-and-forth on the mailing list, I've written:

la-project.org/Moving_Hula

The idea is that if we find we need to find a replacement
for any/all of
the services Novell is currently providing, we'll have a
considered set
of options in front of us and can make a quick choice if
required.

I would be grateful if people who have experience of any of
the
alternatives to the Forge - especially if they use them
regularly - read
and comment upon the page above. If there are options I've
missed,
please do add them. In particular, experiences with Gna and
Berlios
would be good, since they match our current Forge setup most
closely.

It does seem like some options offer an easier route than
others; if
there are any really good reasons for picking a particular
service, jot
them down - my hope is "as few changes as are
necessary" is the route
we'll take though

Cheers,

Alex.

Hi,

good point Alex, to have a backup plan.

Berlios is based on sourceforge, so it has no
really advantages over sf.net.

What we need is a strong host with the needed
infrastructure and for that I think sf.net or
Google Code is the best way.

I would prefere Google Code, because
they have a good and powerfull infrastructure
and will enhance that in the future.
Maybe there will also the opportunity
to take part at Googles "Summer of Code" next year
:-P.
Also google offers hosting features for domains
and so we can use email adresses etc.

Just some thoughts.

Bye

Well seems that only big disadvantage of google code is that
it needs a gmail account, and since we can forward gmail
accounts it should be no big deal. It seems that Google
would be the most reliable haven't seen a lot of 404 errors
on google .
