Hi,

It has been very silent on the mailing list
for the last 20 days and the last commit
on the svn was 18 days ago.

Are there any news from Novell about Hula?
What's with the work on the project?
As you know I want to help with c programming,
but only when Hula is seperated from Novell
or when the community has the controll over the
project.

I hope that my fears don't become
true and hula is dead.

Greetings
Sebastian

I don't think Hula is dead.

I'm not on IRC currently so maybe there's much discussion
there.

Anyway, if nobody has any contact with Novell in the last 20
days, I
would suggest that we fix a deadline (say something like 10
or 15 of
January, so there's no Christmas excuse). If there's no news
from
Novell at this time, we take all we can take and go alone
without
expecting anything from Novell anymore. (this means using
our own SVN
and website and so forth. This is not a negative decision to
say that
we will reject anything from Novell from that date, au
contraire !
It's just that, from this deadline, novell and people from
novell will
be considered as any other contributor and we will no more
rely on
them).

Maybe this is not needed at all and there is a lot of news
coming from
novell everywhere but on this list ! It's just that I can
understand
your fear so, instead of fearing, we can just take decisions
without
waiting for them

I totally agree. It's time to start moving on. We can't sit
around and wait for stuff to happen. I propose we start
voting on possible SVN tools we could use and what not.

If the way Novell is talking to customers is any guideline I
wouldn't expect an
answer soon. At work we
are trying to get GroupWise working with e-dir and
active directory and every question our integrator is asking
Novell
(Netherlands) gets answered with "We are waiting on
Novell US"And that waiting
is taking a long time. It's like no one wants to make a
decision and points to
the other guy/girl.

This is legal we're talking about and they have to think 4
times before daring
to answer anything so......

We'll just have to patience I guess

No it's not, take a look at the forum, already people are
asking questions. We
are the ones who will keep Hula alive. Things just have be
done the right and
proper way, and that always takes time.

Unfortunately IMHO I believe Novell still owns the name and
the related
domains (please correct me if I'm wrong). So we can't just
leave Novell
this way, or we would have to rename the project as well and
loose all
the recognition that it already has.

I can confirm that I ask Alex Hudson, who is the one in
contact with
Novell, and somebody asked again on IRC today after
Sebastian's email,
but he hasn't had any news from their side. He promised he
was going to
chase them but he is very busy over the christmas period. So
for the
moment I think we need to be patient

Hope that answers your questions

hi,

you're right and Ii'm sure, that hula
is just released under the
gnu lesser general public license (lgpl) and
the mozilla public license (mpl).
tell me I'm wrong but that's
what was in the news and
on the official press releases of novell.

ok, if novell will not answer until
the middle or end of december,
the rights on hula are clear and
no one other will do some things:
i'm going to make a forke from
the project with my infrastructure
and some people who want to help.

i hope, that i haven't to go that
far, but i really want hula a my mail server,
because the base of hula is so excellent
and i don't mean only dragonfly
or a lesser hula-lite thing,
as i told early.

happy holidays and
don't sit on the computers all the time .

bye

Hula is released under the GNU Public License (GPL), not the
LGPL
(Lesser GNU Public License), nor the MPL (in fact, the MPL
is completely
unrelated).

At this current stage, I really wouldn't recommend doing it,
but if you
feel it's necessary, go ahead - though, I don't think all
too many
people from the original project will help.

Ok, I was refering to this:

http://www.novell.com/news/press/archive/2005/02/pr
05014.html

But in the project page http://www.hula-
project.org/Licenses
is the GPL mentioned. What is right? That has to be cleared
up because LGPL is no option.

I don't mean someone from Novell,
but to make it community-driven and
to have control. This is only when
nothing happens so far in the next weeks.

Because I don't want to wait any longer and
we will get no one (outside Novell
and a small number of external developers)
to work on it, when it isn't
community-driven and controlled.

Bye
Sebastian

FYI,

I just updated the Novell licensing from LGPL to GPL.
Anyone updating
