Hello,

I need to verify that I'm doing everything correctly.  We are getting ready to upgrade some third-party software that requires a pretty significant change to the layout of our database.  This third-party company also provides us w/ the BI Query data models.  Because of the change in the layout of our databases, I have setup a BI Query 8.5.1 server, seperate from our current LIVE one, so that the users can take their existing reports and port them to this new server.  This 8.5.1 server is pointing to our test databases, which have the layout that the LIVE databases will soon have. ; In the process of porting their existing reports to the 8.5.1 server, our report writers are discovering errors that they must correct (because of table and/or fields that have changed in our databases).  Once these are fixed, they are publishing these reports to the repository.

Once we go live w/ this new software and database structure, I will need to replace the current BI Query 8.5.0 software w/ the 8.5.1 version and port the repository from the server I setup for our report writers over to the BI Query server.  I think I have taken every precaution, but I want to make sure I have all my ducks in a row.

Once I update the Hummingbird software w/ version 8.5.1, I need to stop the server and replace the Repository directory w/ the Repository directory from the server I setup for the report writers to do their conversions.  Then I re-start the server and have the report writers log in.

  • Will they need to retrieve the reports they wrote, and then re-publish?  Or, are they setup and ready to go, at this point?
Also, I have setup the "conversion" server, if you will, to point to the test server that has our test databases on it.

  • When I upgrade the BI Query server software on the BI Query server w/ version 8.5.1 and copy the repository over to it, will these reports work if they now point to the LIVE databases?
In other words, the connections will be pointing to different servers, but the layout of the databases will be identical to that of the test databases.

Thanks!

Shaun
