external emacs editor

The possibility of invoking an external editor  for Latex 
input has been brought up before.  Would it be possible to 
implement an emacs external (via gnuserv or some such) for 
the next version of Ipe?
I find the unchangeable keybindings of the editing widget 
painful

It's on my list of things to do for one of the next
versions.  But don't 
expect a new version anytime soon - I will be very busy
until August 
2007 (organizing SoCG 2007).
