checking out producer

HI,
i cant't get producer from CVS, i'm using the ribosome
build system
that spawns cvs in background that gives that error:

$ cvs -d :ext:rootkit85cvs.helixcommunity.org:/cvsroot/common
checkout -d tmp 
build/BIF
rootkit85cvs.helixcommunity.org's password:
cvs checkout: Updating tmp
cvs checkout: failed to create lock directory for
`/cvsroot/common/build/BIF' 
(/cvsroot/common/build/BIF/#cvs.lock): Permission denied
cvs checkout: failed to obtain dir lock in repository 
`/cvsroot/common/build/BIF'
cvs [checkout aborted]: read lock failed - giving up

What is this? and how can I get those sources?
