Why does ImageMagick use so much memory?

ImageMagick relies on a number of in-memory configuration
files that
are loaded on demand. For the xc: file format the
predefined color
configuration file is read in. Configuration files are
stored in a
self-adjusting binary tree which requires 32-bytes per node
plus attribute
storage requirements, but is quite efficient for retrieval
operations.
Given that, 8MB seems excessive. We will investigate memory
usage over
the next week and reduce memory usage if we find any
opportunities to
do so.
