installation woes on os x: missing an image file name

hi.

i'm trying in various ways and vain to convince image
magick to work
on an intel macbook, os x, 10.4.7.

so far all attempts ended in:

$ convert -verbose 10.jpg
convert: missing an image filename `10.jpg'.

by various attempts i mean compiling from source with
various options
(all tests passed with make check), installing through the
package
provided for the i-Installer program, or installing the
binaries
provided at http://www.kyngchaos.com
(to be precise, the last ones type out the error message
differently:
MissingAnImageFileName...)

if anyone could shed light on this, or has further
suggestions, i'd
be thankful to hear.
i tried google, looked through a few month of mailing list
archives
and the bulletin board, but didn't see anything obvious,
though if
i've missed something i apologize, and would be happy about
a pointer.

thanks!
jan

I think ImageMagick has gobbled up the file name looking for
a command/option.
Try:

convert -verbose 10.jpg 10.png
