Worked fine. Might be an idea for you to copy what I did:
convert logo: logo1.jpg
convert logo: logo2.jpg
composite -gravity NorthWest logo1.jpg logo2.jpg
result.jpg
If this still generates errors then I suspect you still have
an install
problem. If not, then I would suspect your source images.
