Perl Script vs PerlMagick

Currently I have a Perl script I use that calls
Identify and Convert to change a batch of images from
5 megapixel to 1800x1200 sharpened for uploading to
print servers.

Would this be better using PerlMagick?  I've never
used PerlMagick and I'm trying to find out the
benefits over just a Perl script.  Is it faster or are
there other benefits?

I wouldn't say it was faster than "mogrify", but
it may be a smaller
memory requirement.
