converting JPG to lesser quality

Today I got a bunch of jpegs coming from a digital cam. I
wanted to 
pass these picture along to someone else but the pictures
should 
be a step lesser in quality, such that I still own the
"better copies"
and also to prove me as having the ownership of the files.

I saw no quick way other than passing -resize 90% on the
command line

mogrify -resize 90% *.jpg

which worked but is there also a switch to keep picture size
and just 
lower the jpeg quality?
