Is there a PIL convert to Java ? Perhaps an interface to Java ?

Java already has a pretty significant drawing api in the
java.awt
package.  The 2d and 3d interfaces in combination with the
javax.imageio package can probably do everything pil can do.

Another option would be to use jython.
