To my knowledge, the only scientific studies to date are
the
Reinert studies on the supposed effect of ISing on IQ. The
studies
were unable to disprove the null hypothesis, though they
were
presented as if the NH _had_ been disproven. As you might
imagine,
a number of us objected loudly . You can
look up the discussion
threads on them by searching for 'Reinert on Trial' in the
search
  facility of this yahoogroup:

/group/imagestream/msearch?query=Reinert+on+trial&charse
t=>

Be warned however, if you press too hard on the point, the
group
will likely want to shout you down and cast you out. It's
happened
  before ...

If we stick with personal testimony (typically the worst
form of
  evidence: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/imagestream/message/6318
),
then you'll find many people here willing to support
ISing.

I myself have done a fair amount of ISing, and find it a
mixed
blessing. It has helped me directly a very few times, and
it has
also caused me to waste a great deal of time, both with it
and with
false trails suggested by it. Knowing that many people
have in fact
been misled dangerously by uncritically accepting false
visions
which captivated them, I would not even be surprised to
learn that
ISing occasionally harms people in that way.

Of course, in _this_ group, saying such things may very
well draw
fire, but I thought you should know that we are not all of
one mind.

  Good luck,
  Johnius
