The imagery of one of the members of our local thinktank,
Roberta Hoffman, on
the question of how to stop runaway greenhouse effect in
global warming, gave
us the idea of towing a comet into stable LaGrangian orbit
between Earth and
the sun, to act as a partial sunshade ( http://www.winweng

As far-fetched and distant from where people are thinking as
the idea seemed
at first, it's right on for last-resort conditions where
circumstances have
gotten completely out of control while the politicians went
on wrangling.
Another example that stands out in my memory is also from
our local
thinktank, whom I asked in the high thinktank mode, back in
January '02, how best we
might achieve America's stated objectives without bloodshed.
All of us got back
images of water. The a-ha was that with the technology so
improved for
de-salting sea water and the cost per volume of water so
low, we didn't need force
at all. We need only have offered to irrigate the entire
Middle East in
return for Saddam's departure, and that would have cost only
about $3 billion,
compared with the costs we've been bearing there since by
going ahead with the
war. ....win
