I am wondering if there is a nurse supervisor or someone
higher up than the
nurse who you can speak with if you aren't satisfied with
the answer you get
when you reach the nurse . . . or maybe a patient advocate.
Sometimes this
can help.

I just talked to the nurse about an hour ago.
When she picked up the phone I told her who I was and she
was just quiet as if she had no clue who I was. I explained
about my mom and she said she knew and remembers me but
hasn't had a chance to call the hospital to schedule
anything yet and will do so later today. I told her that
this was really urgent and reminded her of my mom's
condition and she said that she understands but she has a
job to do. I didn't say anything to her except for that I
understand(I was in tears by then).
I asked her if she was going to call today to schedule for
sure and she said yes. I asked her if she would call me
back today and let me know and she said yes.
I think I will call her around 4pm to see what she has
accomplished and if she hasn't still called the hospital to
even try to schedule us in, then I am going to be done with
my begging and crying.
If this is their emergency case then what do they do with
their regular cases??

MAN! If she had given me that snippy "I have a job to
do, I would have said,
'Yes, ma'am, I know, and this IS your job!' " And I
wouldn't wait til this
afternoon. I would go down there and stare the receptionist
in the face and
not move until I had an appointment for that surgery. This
is outrageous!

Please don't let them treat you that way. I got put off by
our family doctor
and his staff like that when my son had appendicitis and I
finally went down
to the office and demanded they check the lab report (which
they'd had all
morning but were "too busy" to check the
results). When the nurse checked it
just to get rid of me, the doctor told us to meet the
surgeon at the
emergency room. By this time my son's appendix had
ruptured. They had been
sitting on that lab report for four hours, and that was 24
hours since the
doc had seen my son, who obviously had appendicitis, but the
doctor said he
had a virus.

You have to get pushy with doctors and nurses. Otherwise,
people die.

Susan
