I had read and heard from at least 3 oncologists the risks
with IBC are: On birth control for a long duration (I was
on it for 14 years off during two pregnancies and nursing),
menstruation at an early age, I started mine at age 10), BC
family history........personally, not too sure about this
one, because, I had also heard or read that it is not
genetic, but my maternal aunt had breast cancer at age of
41), and having children at a later age, had my first one
when I was 31 and my second when I was 34. I was diagnosed
when I was 35. I had all four risk factors against me.
The way I see it is that I really didn't have much control
over it and it is not my fault. Just the way the cards were
dealt. Has changed my life in many, many ways for the
better. Although, of course, wish I was not dealt such
shitty cards! : )

There is no point in second guessing yourself about the
past. If
there is any reason to be aware of these findings, it would
be to
inform the decisions of others.
Here is a link to a study that examined this issue:
Oral contraceptives and the risk of breast cancer in BRCA1
and BRCA2
mutation carriers
Women with BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutations have a 50% to 80%
lifetime risk
of developing breast cancer. This risk may be modified by
factors
that influence the level of hormones produced by the body.
Whether
this risk is modified by exogenous hormones, such as oral
contraceptives or hormone replacement therapy, is unknown.
Long-term
oral contraceptive use has been associated with a modest
increase in
the risk of breast cancer in the general population and a
decrease in
the risk of ovarian cancer.
