 Dear Lorri,

I had a DIEP and traveled to New Orleans to do it because
nobody does them in Indiana where I live. I talked to MANY
women who had both, and my own personal opinion was DIEP was
easier and presented less recovery problems as well as less
health problems later. (i.e. a friend who had to have
surgery to hold it up after TRAM because rectiss muscle was
cut, another who had back problems from muscle cut, etc.) My
physical therapist had never heard of DIEP until I told her
about it almost 2 years ago. She has now studied it in depth
and is doing her PhD on the QOL/and health isues after DIEP
vs. TRAM. She believes there is no reason to cut muscle! We
have now had 13 women from Indianapolis have DIEP in New
Orleans and we are all convinced that women need to know
there are better options than TRAM - all of us have been
VERY happy with our reconstruction. There have been so many
of us interested that the med center where I was treated in
Indy is now preparing to do DIEP's because so
many women are asking for them here because of our
spreading the word about a beter option for reconstruction.
Feel free to email me privately about DIEP questions...I
haven't had my second stage yet, but can send photos and
have permission from my Survivor group to give out names and
photos as well! Our doctors have only a .5 percent failure
rate - national Tram rate is a lot higher than that I
believe when I checked...

Hugs, Prayers & Happy Holidays!

Krysti - Indy
