Stopped Femara - Result - Now in Fight of My Life

Hello Lydia

Don't beat yourself up about stopping Femera. I too was on
Femera
from 2000 to 2004 and NED, then skin mets showed up whilst I
was still
taking the drug. A switch to Aromasin didn't work either so
onto
Xeloda for the skin mets, then Taxol for bone mets.
Currently I am on
Navelbine as the Taxol stopped working for me. But I would
suggest
discussing switching chemo regime with your onc. At lot of
people on
this list have had success on Taxol - so did I for about 7
months. If
you are HER2+ then Taxol with Herceptin has had good
results.
Likewise Tykerb with Taxol but Tykerb is still relatively
new. (I am
not HER2+ so not an option for me).

The message my doctors give me (I am at the Royal Marsden
cancer
hospital in bond) is that there are many bullets to fire at
the
beast, so don't give up hope.

best wishes
Suzanne

How do Oncologists decide on chemotherapy?

You might be surprised to find what goes into deciding how
to treat
your cancer--for example the cost effectiveness of drugs
using an
algorithm that assigns values to each month of life gained.

Compensation for oncologists might affect their decisions
about
chemotherapy: The Medicare Modernization Act of 2003
impacted
oncologists and cancer patients dramatically.

A combination chemotherapy treatment called AC/T that's
commonly used
to treat breast cancer patients in the United States is not
as
effective as a treatment called CEF (commonly used in
Canada) and an
experimental treatment called EC/T, according to a study
presented
Sunday at a major breast cancer conference in San Antonio,
Texas.
