Hello Dianne and everyone,
Unfortunately, every large health care facility will have
some people who work with an attitude of indifference
towards patients. It looks as if you have run into M.D.
Anderson's. Because our IBC facility is new, they are
probably just handing out standard information that has been
outdated and are not aware of Dr. C's outfit. No one
deserves a hassle but with the way our insurance system is
set up, it is almost inevitable. There will always be
insurance and payment issues with any hospital. After all,
it takes big buck to run one of those places. However, I do
believe Dr. C is dedicated to helping IBCers and things will
have to be worked out. M.D.A. is a big place and,
comparatively, our center is pretty small. That only means
that we have to drill down a bit deeper to get to the right
people. Looks like Patti has done that and I hope the
people she has listed on her message will be able to make
things go smoother.
As for not taking scans and films from other institutions:
I think that is pretty standard with most centers. They
want to start off using their own procedures and facilities.
This can probably cause even more insurance problems
because insurance companies might have time limits on scans.
I have seen this problem with patients going from community
hospitals in Jersey to larger medical centers in NYC. Sloan
in particular.
So, we still have hurdles to jump and it is just not right
that they are there. With advocates like Patti on the job,
we will get through them. Please keep us posted, we all
have so much at stake in M.D.A.
