Hi Mare,

Thanks! We hiked part way up Mt. Mitchell (the highest peak
this side of the
Mississippi) and made it up about 1000 vertical feet
(hiking, not climbing)
over the course of about 1 1/4 miles and then back down
again. All told,
about 2 1/2 - 3 miles of hiking including a lot of elevation
change. It was
about 4 hours outside in glorious nature and fresh air. We
then had a nice
dinner in nearby Asheville, a cool university town. Rebecca
gained 20+ lbs
going through this and she is BOUND AND DETERMINED to lose
every pound as
fast as possible. I wish she wouldn't focus so much on
this, but I do
appreciate that she wants to feel healthy again. I love her
exactly the way
she is no matter what.

Although there was no climbing on this trip, we are
climbers! That's how we
met. Sadly, she has not been able to climb since two trips
we squeezed in
between chemo and surgery, knowing it would be the last
opportunity in a
long while. I live for the day that I take her climbing
again, even if it's
just a 5.3 or 5.4. Getting lymphadema scares the living
daylights out of her
because you can't climb without getting sore, scraping up
hands and arms and
getting into binds where you must push your body to its
limit, all
lymphadema triggers. There's a great lymph specialist
nearby called Lymflow
and they've taught us a special massage technique to keep
the lymph flowing
to avoid swelling.

warm regards,
michael.
