I am ER+/PR+ and am interested in the NutriSystem weight
loss program and
have done some research....90% of the products contain soy -
soy
concentrate, soybeans, soy isolate, soy flour, soy grits.
My onc said that
she has heard good things about the program, but we did not
discuss the soy
in the food groups. I hesitate to order the program because
of this. There
are a few products that contain no soy, leaving me with very
limited food
choices.
Have any of you tried this weight loss program? What were
the results? Did
you stay away from the foods containing soy? Should I be
concerned about
the soy?
I do not want to get into the "Soy Wars" again -
just trying to make an
educated decision - I am 5 years, 2 weeks from diagnosis and
am still stable
with no progression, being stage IV at the beginning with
mets to my back.
I know people that have used this weight loss program with
good results -
but they did not have a history of breast cancer.
I await your responses.

At age 51, in February 2001, itching on left nipple - went
away; in April,
pain in left breast that began during my period (had
fibrocystic tissue);
pain, swelling, redness, hardness symptoms appeared
mid-April. Went on
business trip; saw doctor on May 4th, diagnosed on May 14,
2001; ER+/PR+;
Her2/neu-; 8.8 cm cluster of cells shrunk to 2.5cm before
surgery. MRI
showed 6 mets in vertebrae; 4 Adriamycin/Cytoxan 5/17/01
thru 7/18/01;
continual indigestion; monthly Aredia (changed to Zometa on
1/2/02);
bilateral mastectomy August 8, 2001; 7+/22 nodes left
breast; 1+/4 nodes
right; port installed before 135 mg weekly Taxol began
8/28/01; daily
Femara. Radiation on left chest wall began 12/10/01
(included 5 boosters to
scar line) and ended January 28. 60 mg Taxol weekly during
radiation.
Continued with 135 mg/wk Taxol through March 21. Hair
returned during Taxol.
No interval change and stable with no evidence of
progression with all scans
since 2001. Worked through treatment and radiation. God is
good.
