Hello. I saw a similar thread about this a week or so ago.
We employ a very high functioning hearing impaired
administrative assistant. She is increasingly required to
take meeting minutes in a conference room with multiple
speakers around a table. She can read lips very well but
finds it increasingly difficult to follow all speakers and
write down notes without missing pieces of conversation
while doing so.

Is there any kind of software out there that can record a
meeting and then transcribe it? Dragon's naturally speaking
is not suited to multiple speakers.

Are there other solutions or other types of solutions out
there?

Hello

as far as I know, there are a lot of speech to text
technologies being built

IBM I think released their code as open source, and there
are some good open source resources The accuracy is still
limited, but as support tool could work

when searching, look for 'speech to text' below a few links

pdm

http://linux-sound
.org/speech.html

http://www.cavs.msstate.edu/hse/ies/proje
cts/speech/software/index.html

also

Text-to-speech and speech-to-text (voice recognition)

    * Festival: Voice synthesis system (implemented with a
trainable
neural network)
    * OpenSALT: Implementation of SALT
    * OpenVXI: Implementation of VoiceXML
    * Sphinx: speaker-independent speech recognizer

I just saw this article (http://www.pcmag.com/
article2/0,1895,1915071,00.asp) on just announced new
technology from IBM and was reminded of this message thread.

"At IBM, we have this superhuman speech recognition
[initiative in which] the goal is to get performance
comparable to humans in the next five years."
