>> Management has me researching the possibility of moving our office
from PCs to Macs and I wanted to get the opinions, observations,
comments etc. of the group. I believe they are interested in doing
this mostly from a security standpoint. My concerns so far are cost,
training, lost productivity, and the small market share Macs have. I
know the debate of Macs vs. PCs is all over the map but am looking for
a non-PC/non-Mac biased opinion.>>
Dear Jeff, and other esteemed colleagues:
The most helpful advice I can give you is not technical at all. It's
that - when it comes to comparing Macs and PCs - you are dealing in
matters of faith and religion, and you need to conduct your internal
conversations with that in mind.
Speaking as a religious person with extensive experience in interfaith
dialogue, I know that it's important to go into the conversation with
solid ground rules about having mutual education rather than
evangelism as the goal. Encourage everyone to speak about their own
experiences and feelings, since these things are not really open to
contradiction. Seek out success stories about harmonious
inter-marriage. Strive for a culture that honors pluralism and
diversity.
