Depends on your connection. We are also a smaller non-profit with partners and offices scattered around the world. Often we use video conferencing for interviews and some meetings. We've been using skype with Logitech quick cam and the clearone phone. These have gone pretty well

For a conference you can use a projector to be able to share with everyone.
There is also a service called gotomeeting

which enables more online interaction.
We are currently trying to develop a better solution for our conferencing needs. Some questions are -- what are you doing in the meetings? Are you working? Does it make sense to have application sharing? Need ppt? is video essential -- trust building? This allows you to put money in the most salient features (which there are a lot to choose from)
I've been teaching courses in Haiti for under 1,000 and so it's possible. Sometimes the human effort can make up for lack of "high tech"

>>We are about 33 folks scattered over 4 offices, and are looking for a video conference solution ON THE CHEAP. One of our offices is 206 miles round trip, so we want to set up a way to have meetings remotely but want something that is somewhat beyond a speakerfone on the table. We are hoping for a webcam type of solution with a budget of no more (or not much more) than $1,000.>>
