>>Thanks to everyone for all of your advice on
laptops. I decided to get a 12" Apple Powerbook, on
Ebay!>>
I've been getting really good deals on Ebay lately, saving
hundreds of dollars on software and computer hardware. My
method is to check Froogle for the item I'm interested in.
Then I find the item on Ebay and put in a top bid that is
somewhat lower than the cheapest price I found elsewhere.
Sometimes I am outbid, but usually I get the item for even
less than my top bid.
I've also seen items going for not much less than they sell
for elsewhere. I think this might be because people are not
taking into account the shipping and handling fees, which
for larger items can end up being substantial. For example,
Dell is offering a 19" LCD monitor for $313.65,
including shipping. In an auction I participated in on Ebay,
the same monitor went for only eight dollars less.
I do agree that it is important to be careful regarding
"second chance" scams etc. I have also bought
items that in retrospect were almost certainly stolen. Like
the dirt-cheap mobile phone which came with a third-party
replacement power adapter still in the box. That seems
fishy.
