(ISF) Is there a nightmare waiting to happen in your sock drawer?

Hi, Y'all.

Thanks to everyone for your valuable and thought-provoking dialogue on backing up confidential information.

I just want to add?one thing: Find out how long it will take to restore!

When our database was corrupted by a power surge, we discovered that our [daily, incremental] back-up to a local external hard drive had also failed. The company we'd contracted with to remotely back up our database promised to restore it with in the week. That's a terribly long time to go without a working database.

In my case, I had - on a whim - burned the database file to a CDR the week before, so I was able to restore it with out relying on the outsourced company.

Now I burn a cd every evening before locking my office.

I hadn't thought of my sock drawer...
