Ramsey is right. A natural disaster scenario is simply more likely and with proper design can incorporate many of the scenarios that Deborah raised.
Here in lower Manhattan, right next to the WTC, we are at risk for severe flooding following any Category 1 or 2 hurricane with resulting loss of access for weeks to any buildings in our area. If a Cat 3 or 4 hit, the entire area below Canal Street would be unavailable. And should there be another terrorist attack in the city, large parts of the city would be inaccessible. For us, this means that the strategy centered around a bank deposit box is impractical.
We store our information offsite via online backups. We are currently upgrading our data line capacity to speed up the backups as well.
