Hi Anne,
You should try Organizer's Database (ODB). It is a great
database for member and volunteer tracking as well as
fundraising. It is written by a non-profit, Organizer's
Collaborative, which is based in Boston.
ODB is open source and free. It is written in VB with an MS
Access backend. Download page: http://www.org
anizenow.net/odb/odb.php
I'd be glad to answer any questions that you have.
Disclosure: I'm a member of the ODB Advisory board, a
developer of ODB and a database consultant who specializes
in Non-Profit organizations.
Hope this helps.
Steve.

>>I am the Director of a non-profit that does
employment and training for low-income adults. We are in
desperate need of a data base to manage both our participant
information and our contacts. I would really love an access
based data base - as I'm a little comfortable with querying,
etc - not surprisingly - there's no money in the budget for
this - and I was hoping people might be able to suggest or
share some existing products.>>
