I'd agree with Don and Surya that using the delete button
is a great way to deal with disagreeable material. I wade
through more than 100 emails a day just to find one good
idea or one possible contact that might help me improve my
ability to connect inner city kids in Chicago with volunteer
tutors/mentors.
I'd like to see the conversation move from what we don't
want on a list serve to how we increase the number of people
from business, churches, universities, government, etc. who
connect in on-line conversations with each other and with
people who are doing community service, or who are served by
such programs.
While millions are on the Internet daily, I think only a
small percent gather in forums like this to discuss ways to
solve community problems. In addition, I don't think the
"resource providers and decision makers" are in
the same on-line forums as the "service providers and
people who need help".
With the experience many of you have at moderating on-line
forums, it would be great to see a lively discussion on ways
to increase participation of key people and organizations.
