Subject: [nten-discuss] Call for nominations to the Public
Interest
Registry .ORG Advisory Council
To: nten-discuss list.nten.org
All,
I normally do not post to such a large community but I think
that many
of you may find an interest in the .ORG Advisory Council and
the
possibility of serving on it. The .ORG Advisory Council is
a great
opportunity to serve the .ORG community in the areas of
internet
policy, outreach and new services. I personally would
welcome
qualified individuals from the NTEN community as I know that
there are
many on this list who would be a valuable asset to the .ORG
Advisory
Council. For more information, please read the call
announcement
below.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact
me
personally at mward pir.org.
Thanks,
Michael Ward

Tuesday, February 21, 2006: Call for Nominations to the
Public
Interest Registry .ORG Advisory Council
The .ORG Advisory Council has been a valuable global
resource for the
Public Interest Registry (PIR) management in the areas of
policy,
outreach, new services and support. The council continues to
provide
PIR with beneficial recommendations to improve registry
operations and
support the noncommercial .ORG community. Seven of the 21
Advisory
Council seats are to be filled on May 1, 2006. All seats are
for
three-year terms. We would like your help in soliciting the
best
possible nominees for the open seats. We are seeking
individuals with
significant Internet leadership experience within the
nonprofit,
nongovernmental organization (NGO) and domain name arenas
who
represent the broad and geographically diverse spectrum of
the global
noncommercial community.
Interested individuals are encouraged to submit nominations,
including
self-nominations. A nomination statement of approximately
400 words
should include details of the nominee's experience with the
Internet,
commitment to promoting the noncommercial use of the
Internet,
understanding of the technical or policy issues facing the
.ORG
registry, and perspectives regarding the needs of the .ORG
community.
A current biography and digital photograph also are
requested.
The council consists of 21 members selected by the PIR board
of
directors in accordance with the Charter of the Council. New
council
members will be announced 1 May 2006. Nominations must be
submitted by
Friday, 14 April 2006. Please submit nominations to
nominations pir.org.
For additional information on the council, go to Advisory
Council.
About PIR
Public Interest Registry (www.pir.org) is a 501(c)(3)
not-for-profit
corporation created by the Internet Society (ISOC) to manage
the .ORG
domain. PIR's mission is to manage the .ORG domain in an
exemplary
manner, while educating and empowering the global
noncommercial
community to use the Internet more effectively and,
concurrently, to
take a leadership position among Internet stakeholders on
policy and
related issues on behalf of the .ORG community. PIR is based
in
Reston, VA, USA.
About .ORG
The .ORG domain, which has come to be associated with
noncommercial
activities, is the Internet's third largest
"generic" or non-country
specific top-level domain with more than 4 million domain
names
registered worldwide. In 2002, the Internet Corporation for
Assigned
Names and Numbers (ICANN) Board of Directors selected
ISOC's proposal
from among 11 organizations bidding to operate the .ORG
top-level
domain. PIR assumed control of the registry on 1 January
2003.
