I play with every VoIP system I can get my hands on, so let
me give a few quick comments on this:

Vonage: I've been using Vonage for years. I like it very
much. When I signed up, it was IMHO the best of the breed.
Best price, etc. They are still probably the market leader,
and although there may be some services that are cheaper,
especially if you do a lot of international calling, I still
keep Vonage as my secondary incoming line, and my primary
outgoing long distance line.

SkypeIn: I set it up. I played with it for a little bit.
My number is about to expire and I'll probably let it
expire. It hasn't proven to be worth it. One big plus for
Skype. It gets across more firewalls than other VoIP
solutions.

Free World Dialup (FWD): These guys are the granddaddy's
of SIP based phone systems. I use XTen's free SIP client,
X-Lite. It seems to have a memory leak and is a bit
complicated to configure, so I don't use it a lot. They
had a set up with ipkall so you could have a dialin number.
I tested it and had mixed results. I had similar
experiences with Call UK for a dialin number in the UK. My
understanding is that they have some new FWDin and FWDout
functionality coming. I keep the account for nostalgia
purposes, but don't really use it much. They have a new
Communicator which may be good, but I seem to recall it
doesn't run on my old NT box.

Gizmo Project: http://www.gizmoproject.
com/ This is a nice new interface to the old SIPPhone
setup. They have set up a nice integrated solution with
Call Wave. I've set up a few Gizmodo accounts, and I'm
very please with them. They are a little funky on the call
screening side, but they are nice for leaving voicemail that
goes to an email box. If you want an example, drop me an
email and tell me the number you are calling from. Then,
give me a call at 775-796-8215. I'll let it go to
voicemail and forward the email I receive to you.

multiple phone numbers and voicemail? Other suggestions for
voicemail/phone services that aren't too expensive and are
good quality? I heard Vonage was not good.>>
