It sounds like you changed servers or re-imported from a PST file. You should right-click your Contacts folder, select the Outlook Address Book tab, and check the option to display this folder as an e-mail Address Book. You will then be able to select from it (you will probably see two instances of Contacts now - select the bottom one).
