(ISF) FW: USTDA: Sub-Saharan Africa Information and Communication Technoloy]

Hello all,

I would like to let everyone know about a U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) hosted conference on Sub-Saharan Africa Information and Communications Technology to be held in San Francisco on March 19-21, 2007 (http://www.trademeetings.com/ssMeetingDetails.asp?meetingId=181). The USTDA's mission is to 'to advance economic development and U.S. commercial interests in developing and middle-income countries', which they carry out by funding 'various forms of technical assistance, investment analysis, training, orientation visits and business workshops'.

I have been interested in this approach for several years, looking for ways that I could be involved in this process through my employer or some other means. The are several obstacles to be overcome, one of which is the ability to provide significant resources in support of such ventures, as well as exhibiting enough familiarity with the cultural and technological demands of the project. I have sufficient experience with the technical aspects of IT, though not necessarily from a less developed point of view. I am extremely challenged by my lack of experience with the culture of these societies.

If you are interested in some sort of collaborative presentation of skill sets or have the savvy to advise me as to a reasonable course of obtaining participation in these funded activities, please contact me.
