I am looking for a dataset that I can use to demonstrate a web data-querying tool. It needs to be public (obviously), and also something that is in the public consciousness. For example, I could use a dataset of the world's inactive volcanoes, but I don't think many people know or care about inactive volcanoes.
Ideal would be a table of tv shows, movies, livable cities, consumer items, etc.
It needs to have from 500 to 100,000 records, at least a half dozen fields, and it should be free or under a hundred dollars.
I tried the US census, but there are only 50 states, and that is a pretty small data set. I know some sports info is available, but I am leaning away from that because that is only interesting to certain types of folks.
All suggestions welcome!
