Hi all,
Would love some feedback on what people are doing, what they think, etc. regarding asking for the CVV number on mail reply devices. Our bank has told us that Visa & MC want this to be mandatory to process CC donations from our direct mail campaigns in the next year. On the upside, having that number would drastically reduce our processing fees since all of those transactions are 'card not present' ones and a CVV 'hit' makes the transaction more 'legit'... However, the security concern has everyone around here up in arms.
>From what I've been reading this has become mandatory in the UK and some orgs are not even accepting cc donations via the mail asking instead that the donor call them or go to their website to donate via cc because they don't want to ask for the CVV number via the mail.
Has anyone else been told that number is going to be mandatory soon to process cc transactions? Is anyone asking for that number on your reply devices? Does asking for the CVV number, in your opinion, put the donor at even more risk then what they already face considering we ask them to provide a cc #, expire date, name and address info when they donate via cc via mail?
I'm going to post this to a couple of different lists, so I apologize now if you get this question more than once in your inbox.
Thanks much!
Best,
Jill
