Before doing this, I would read these two articles:

om/Ou/?p=418
http://www.sasch
ameinrath.com/2007feb04windows_vista_drm_turning_ipods_into_
doorstops_since_2007
The first outlines how a simple website (a MySpace page, for
example) that plays audio could compromise a VISTA
installation. Microsoft's solution is to turn of sound, turn
off the microphone, and to turn off Windows Media Player if
this type of audio file is run by the user...rather
ridiculous suggestions The author
and several commentors were all able to create audio files
(which could be played from a website, sent as a virus-free
email attachment, etc) that could, for example, launch Vista
speech recognition, open Explorer, delete the documents
folder, and then empty the trash. Microsoft will not
currently commit to a patch.
The second article points out that following Microsoft's
instructions on how to "safely" eject an Ipod can,
in many cases, result in your Ipod turning into an expensive
paperweight. Apple also verifies that Itunes songs will not
play on VISTA, because Microsoft's attempts to manage
digital copyrights won't recognize the Itunes purchases as
being legitimate.
Kind of hard to believe, but your existing XP installation
may be a far more secure choice than VISTA. If you're
looking for an operating system that's ready for real-world
use, I'd suggest Ubuntu.
