I have a recurring fear that all my careful preparations for back-up and restore of data on desk-top and lap-tops may crumble, because of my lack of knowledge about FAT32 and FTP formatting of the respective hard drive partitions.
My query is to seek guidance about how to proceed given that some programs and files were created on Windows 98SE systems and migrated to XP. Now we are looking forward a year or so to Vista.
When can I (or should I worry) about backing up from an FTP formatted directory on a desk-top or laptop to a FAT32 formatted partition on an external hard-drive? or vice versa? Is there any similar potential problem if my data reside on external drive in FAT32, and I am trying to restore to an internal drive in FTP?
By extension any thoughts about best-of-breed back-up/restore applications for Windows environment?
