i think i asked you all about this once before, but ... i have AOL DSL service, through COVAD. last year i complained to AOL about inconsistency in the signal. AOL/COVAD sent technicians out to the house who reported that the signal to the house is fine, but is 'noisy' from the phone box on the exterior of the house to the inside. Folks on this list agreed that this was a likely explanation.
after months of an inconsistent signal, it was consistently fine from early december until early march (of course i cannot vouch for 24/7 but seemed to be working everytime i looked at the modem). but now again as last year, the signal is off and on. mostly off during the day; mostly fine from about 9pm all night.
1.whatever does this mean? why off during the day and on at night? could it be lousy service from AOL/COVAD?
2.would cable be a better choice? any way to get inexpensive high speed cable without bundling it with phone and TV?
thanks for your expertise!
