My thoughts - if it's part of the employee handbook, where's the ambiguity. In addition, I also highlighted in the employee agreement along with how to use the company email system and what is allowed and what isn't.
It sounds simple to use your personal email address but you've lost control over the formality of an email and the safety of company communication to your clients. When you use your work email address, you are covered with a blanket of business insurance. If people are saying things outside of the company email system, then it sets a dangerous precedence going forward.
I get everyone on my email account so that they are covered by insurance and their non-disclosure.
Also what do you do if a person leaves the company. You've lost all that email communication history. Someone else just mentioned that though.
