Dear ISF Colleagues,
I really appreciate this discussion! Your reflections are very helpful.
A couple of thoughts:
- This seems like a really important topic, because highly effective
nonprofit workers have been doing for years exactly the sort of social
networking that is now being taken online for everyone.
- One crucial point that I am getting out of this discussion is that
some of us regard connecting on LinkedIn as an acknowledgement of an
existing professional relationship, while others see it as an
indication of interest in creating one.* It's important to be clear
about which we mean, especially in a sector where implied endorsement
of someone else's professional work can have serious consequences.
Best regards from Deborah
* I've actually written a blog article to explore some of these
thoughts <http://blog.deborah.elizabeth.finn.com/blog/_archives/2007/4/16/2885468.html>,
but at the moment you can't read it, because my blog has been frozen
again by the host. :-(
