<> Protect Your Domain Name!
Every day, approximately 2,000 .ORG domain names become
available because registrants let them expire, often
unintentionally. This can lead to expired domain names
falling into the hands of individuals or organizations
that might use them counter to the intent and/or
missions of their original owners, or that might use
them in such a way that brings embarrassment to the
original .org domain name owner. The process of
obtaining expired domain names has become
sophisticated, automated, and increasingly popular.
Your .ORG domain name is a valued and trusted resource,
and the more well-traveled your site, the more
attractive you domain name becomes. The Public Interest
Registry has created a five-step checklist designed to
protect ".org" domain names from being misused.

<> Be Careful With the Word "Listserv"
Many online groups that I've been a part of call
themselves a "listserv." I've tried to caution them,
explaining that this term is trademarked, and
describes only those email-based lists that use
software by L-Soft International
(http://www.lsoft.com/corporate/legal.asp).
Often, my caution is rebuffed. "Everyone uses it!"
responders chirp.
L-Soft International is becoming more vigilant about
protecting this trademarked term. Recently, the
official AmeriCorps online community finally stopped
using the term, per action by L-Soft. Will your
organization be next?
Avoid any PR problems and awkward communications to your
members by NOT calling your online community a
"listserv" unless it really is such -- meaning it uses
L-Soft software.
More information about the AmeriCorps online community.
