I haven't heard of anything and frankly, if something had happened, it would be all over the news. http://search.securityfocus.com/swsearch?sbm=%2F&metaname=alldoc&;query=google+desktop&x=0&y=0

Most of the criticism of Google Desktop has been based on superstition. There are legitimate privacy concerns, but those are "concerns" and are inherent to that type of application.

If I had to guess what brought down the servers? Probably having it installed on a server (Which crosses over form superstition of active bad server management for having unnecessary desktop apps on a server). The Google index can be very large and a filled disk will "bring down a server."

BTW - I've started a Security affinity group over at NTEN http://groups.nten.org/group.htm?mode=home&igid=51021

>>One of my clients is in a panic about Google desktop, because the security people at her dad?s workplace put out this message: ?Recent revelations concerning Google-Desktop have shown conclusively that it is a security risk we cannot afford on the [company] network. Accordingly, we are purging it from all [company] workstations. Additionally, for the foreseeable future, this particular software is banned.? My client also claims that the search engine somehow brought down two servers. Mmm. Although there was a big potential security hole found and patched in Feb, I just haven?t found anything this alarming recently online. Anyone out there have any information or views on the security issues of GDT?>>
