>>I am seeking recommendations for digital photo archiving software for small-ish non profits without a lot of photography or IT expertise. The software should enable them to archive thousand of images with date, rating, tagging, etc. in an easy and intuitive way. I work on a Mac and love iphoto and aperture, but am looking for something for PCs to recommend to the orgs we work with. Any suggestions?>>
iPhoto is great. If you're looking for something somewhat similar on the PC side, check out Google's Picasa at http://picasa.google.com/ It has both a Mac and a PC version, though I'd only recommend it over iPhoto if I were recommending a purely cross-platform solution. There is also iViewMedia Pro at http://www.iview-multimedia.com/mediapro/ (I think there is also a free version), its far more than an image/photo manager, allowing you to catalog all your digital media. But a number of people just use it for photo management. It is also cross platform.
Otherwise, there also web base solutions or high-end speciality systems.
