The Union of Concerned Scientists is looking for a time tracking system for some of our employees, largely to ensure FLSA compliance. Our staff work in three or more locations around the country and our administration/payroll function is based here in Cambridge. We have approx 130 employees and would eventually want to be able to use this for everyone.

Can anyone recommend an easy to use, off the shelf and perhaps web based system ?

Thank you for all ideas.

Cheryl

I also wonder if anyone can recommend a system they use to track volunteer time. Perhaps a system can be used for both employees and
volunteers (and definitely would something web-based).

Thanks, Cindy

These solutions have been built in to salesforce.com by community members:

Time/Project Management:

Volunteers:

They can be easily manipulated to meet your organization's needs.

Cindy,

May I suggest the software that I work with, DonoVol. You can get information on this software this web-site:

* http://ujima.biz/software/supersuites.html

* DONOVOL - an application that allows an agency to track donations received and volunteer support.

* DONOVOL - <http://ujima.biz/software/donovol.html>

Earthjustice (http://www.earthjustice.org - because the earth needs a good lawyer), where I just started a job as IT Director, is also looking for timekeeping software. While we are a law firm, our timekeeping needs are not as demanding as that of your typical firm, which bills it's clients, so the industry-specific application we have in place is overkill. But, for light timekeeping, I'm struggling with what a specialized application has to offer over a simple Excel form. One killer feature would be a configurable inactivity timeout, and some kind of Office integration that could key in to document opens and closes. Is there any such thing? This is actually a feature of a good document management system, but that's not budgeted.

Hi Everyone,

There is a product called SCOOP (see the company website at http://emtlaser.com) that offers many of the items you discuss. SCOOP allows for scheduling of volunteers, staff as well as resources (a.k.a. assets) which includes everything from conference rooms, to tents for a fund raiser to emergency response items such as bull dozers. And I'm relatively certain that you can use the reports to import data into your payroll system. I have found SCOOP to be highly customizable and it comes highly recommended by a variety of non-profit organizations .

You can reach them at:

I hope this helps!

We are using ADP's ezLaborManager.

It is a hosted web-based application.

Staff sign into the web site to fill out time sheets, supervisors approve their own staff's time sheets before payroll is processed.

There is a full reporting hierarchy. You can also track accrued vacation or sick time, etc.

Seems to be working fine for us.

I don't know about cost, since the whole thing was arranged by our
Finance and HR offices.
