Hello.

The Nonprofit Coordinating Committee of New York City has
created a document to help guide nonprofits through the
creation of a disaster recovery plan, and also to help
groups understand the rationale behind putting such
strategies in place.

The guide can be downloaded from here:

http://w
ww.npccny.org/info/disaster_plan.htm

Hope that helps.

Looks like there are some great resources out there, from
what i have seen forwarded so far.

I"ve developed disaster recovery plans for 2
organizations. ONe was successful and the other became a
one person project that fizzled out. The difference was buy
in from the CEO and board. It is absolutely critical to get
buy in from the people at the top of your organization or
you will not be able to get the right people around the
table and motivated to address the issues. WIth the
successful plan, we had reps from all departments and we all
sat around a table and identified mission critical processes
that needed to be continued, and in what time frame.

Also, establishing a plan and schedule for ongoing
maintenance is important. Representatives from each
department were responsible for updating their own sections
and maintaining their own critical contacts (vendors).

Another tip....see how many parts of the plan can be
developed from documents or lists that are in use by the
participants. For example, we kept all of our critical
contacts electronically, in Outlook (with a category name of
Critical Contacts) and exported them quarterly into an excel
spreadsheet that was one of the appendices of the plan.

Once the plan is written, test it. Though it might be a
hard sell to do a mock disaster, you can test parts and
pieces separately.

I could go on and on....but as i noted, looks like lots of
good info out there.

You can subscribe to the Disaster REcoery Journal. Frankly,
a lot of it is geared to larger organizations but
occasionally you'll find something useful and it is free.
