(ISF) Mentoring

Hi everyone. I've been receiving the posts for a while and they have been very informative. So thank you very much to all of you. Here's my question: Has any of you ever been a mentor to college students who are entering the field? If so, what has been your experience for both you and the student? I'm a student currently studying CIS(computer information systems) and also work at a non-profit org. (no IT Dept or staff, except me) but I really want to find someone that can be a mentor to me, so I'm wondering how does people in the IT field feels about mentoring college students. Any thoughts/comments? Thanks

I had a great experience in Eugene Oregon at Lane Community College's ACCESS program http://www.lanecc.edu/wp/newsw02.htm

It was a mentorship program matching older women in traditionally male-dominated professions/trades with students in those fields.

My mentor and I both gave very positive feedback on our relationship and the supportive program of workshops ACCESS ran.

You might want to check if there's a similar program in your area?
